Dear ACC friend,
This year we welcomed our 7th grade scholars into the new middle school. This is a testament of hard work from all staff, especially those on the Middle School taskforce. Our Middle School scholars wear a black polo shirt that distinguishes them from the elementary scholars. Our goal is to develop a thriving middle school that engages scholars and prepare them for high school and beyond.
To make learning fun we have implemented Fun Friday; a reward for scholars who complete their classwork and homework. This is a motivation for all scholars to complete their work. Each month we see more scholars participating in Fun Friday. Because doing your work is an expectation, we reward participating scholars while those not participating continue to finish their classwork with support from teachers.
We are tending to the social emotional needs of our scholars by implementing a circle process that creates a safe and orderly space for scholars to discuss important social, academic and school issues. Every morning each advisory group meets in a circle to begin their day. Please come and observe this beautiful setting.
The Media Center became functional in mid-November. We hired a part-time librarian to support scholars and teachers. We are continually looking for books to put on our media center shelves. We also use this space for meeting and celebrating scholars who are exiting their intervention groups. You are invited to come and see our media center.
The violin program that started in 2016-17 with Kindergarten scholars has grown to serve both kindergarten and 1st grade in 2017-18. We will continue to grow this program every year until 5th grade. Six ACC scholars performed in the St. Paul Conservatory of Music winter concert. See picture below. Our partnership with the St. Paul Conservatory of Music remains strong and makes learning music fun. Below are testimonials from two of our ACC families.
My daughter loves music at church. Every time she hears the piano playing, she says, “I play the violin at my school and I love it. Someday I will play the piano too” - Mr. Castillo Perez.
Jose mentioned that he likes to play a box at school. The box turned out to be a violin. He was out sick one week and mentioned that he needed to practice his box. He enjoys playing the violin. – Mrs. Garcia Dominguez.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you to all those who adopted a family from our school. Your act of kindness is appreciated.
