ACC’s Dual language program aims at strengthening our scholars’ first language (Spanish) and improving their English language skills. Ultimately, we are preparing our scholars to become bilingual and bi-literate.
Our dual language program offers two options for Spanish language development. In Pre-K, Kindergarten and first grade we offer a 60/40 model. Scholars learn in Spanish for 60% of their day and in English for 40%. In 2nd grade, scholars learn in English and have 1 hour of Spanish everyday. In 3rd through 5th grade, scholars receive 40 minutes of Spanish literacy instruction daily. In 6th through 8th grade, scholars have 1 trimester of Spanish instruction per year.
ACC’s Dual language teachers:
- Are bilingual in Spanish and English
- Are licensed to teach in MN and others are preparing to become licensed
- Are culturally competent
